About the lecture

This Yoga Philosophy Lecture with Ty offers an evening of study and reflection rooted in lived practice. Ty has a grounded way of sharing yoga philosophy, making ancient teachings feel relevant as a framework for navigating life today. Rather than abstract theory, his approach invites inquiry into how these teachings can offer orientation, clarity, and a sense of steadiness in the midst of modern challenges.

This talk will be a hopeful tribute to modern yoga, and a playful paean for the spirit of somatic exploration. The premise of the talk is that, beneath all the confusion, beneath all the glitter and the glam, the modern yoga movement has real spiritual depth. The practices of asana, pranayama and meditation reconnect us to our souls. They bring enchantment back into our lives, and they offer a compelling response to the dissociation and desolation of our time. The modern yoga movement does not need another philosophy, but a breath of new inspiration, and the kind of trust that comes from true reflection.

Together we reflect about the shape of our spiritual needs, and we dream a new dream about what yoga can be.

The lecture can be attended as a standalone event and also forms part of the Black Lotus Yoga weekend intensive. All interested are welcome to join.

What to expect

This evening takes place as an intimate gathering at De Roos, offering space to listen, reflect, and ask questions along the way. Ty shares yoga philosophy in a passionate and accessible way, allowing space for questions and interaction. You can expect to leave feeling inspired, with a renewed sense of connection and orientation to take with you.

Optional Intensive: Black Lotus Yoga

3-4 October 2026

This intensive offers an embodied introduction to the Black Lotus Yoga practice, where philosophy is explored through movement rather than theory. Through a physical and attentive practice, you’ll be guided to experience how breath, structure, and subtle techniques come together to support a deeper sense of embodiment.

The intensive can be booked on its own, or combined with the accompanying philosophy lecture if you’d like to explore the teachings of Black Lotus Yoga both through practice and shared reflection.

The Teacher

Ty Landrum

Ty Landrum is a poet, philosopher, somatic explorer and apprentice to the body. He learned yoga from pain and heartache, loss and confusion, old books and lost tapes, full moons, long bouts of silence, cold winds, simplicity, forgiveness, surrender, and the caring words of a few good friends.

Renowned for his profound explorations of traditional yogic ideas, Ty has a unique talent for bringing the philosophy of yoga alive, not only in words, but on the canvas of the breathing body. His passion as a teacher is to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.

Global Flow x Ty

Ty Landrum is coming back to Amsterdam, and I’m happy to welcome him again at Global Flow. I first met Ty while hosting a free online yoga event during the Covid period, and I was immediately drawn to his deep knowledge of yoga philosophy and the way he truly embodies his practice.

Ty brings a rare combination of dedication, lived understanding, and humility to his teaching. Through Black Lotus Yoga, his own method rooted in Ashtanga yoga, he brings together years of study and personal practice in a way that feels grounded and accessible. We’re excited to host Ty at Global Flow again and to offer you the opportunity to deepen and broaden your practice through his teachings.
