“Rest is radical resistance to a culture of burnout.” - Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
Uma Dinsmore-Tuli began practicing yoga in 1969, at the age of four, and has remained devoted to the practice ever since. She has been teaching yoga since 1994, guided by a lifelong curiosity for the subtle intelligence of the body and the cyclical nature of life.
Her work is rooted in yoga therapy, with a particular focus on women’s health. Uma is the author of several influential books, including Yoni Shakti and Nidra Shakti, and is widely recognised for her pioneering contribution to the field of Yoga Nidra. Through her teaching, writing, and therapeutic work, she explores how yoga can support vitality, resilience, and deep rest across different phases of life.
Uma works internationally, offering immersions, trainings, and retreats that support the natural arising of prana shakti, the life force. Her teaching honours the intelligence of the living body and the rhythms of the natural world, with particular attention to menstrual health, menopause, pregnancy, birth, and postnatal recovery.
Her approach is shaped by early studies in Iyengar and Satyananda yoga, ongoing inspiration from Angela Farmer’s feminine asana practice, and decades of clinical and experiential research in yoga therapy. Uma describes her work as post-lineage yoga, rooted in yoga tantra and adapted for contemporary life.
Uma x Global Flow
The connection between Uma and Global Flow began many years ago, when I first met her as a student during her Yoga Nidra Teacher Training. That initial encounter laid the foundation for a collaboration that has continued to unfold over time, rooted in shared values and a deep respect for the practice.
Since 2018, Uma has been an integral part of Global Flow. Alongside her, her partner Nirlipta, co-founder of The Yoga Nidra Network, has also shared his teachings within the Global Flow context. Their presence and lived understanding of the practice has shaped the way Yoga Nidra is experienced within our community.
We are grateful that Uma continues to share more than three decades of knowledge and experience with such generosity. Her long-standing involvement with Global Flow reflects a relationship built on a shared commitment to creating spaces for genuine immersion and deep rest.
"Yoga nidrā is an effortless state of restfulness in the form of a horizontal meditation that takes place just on the threshold of sleep.”
